Sleeping Disorders can affect anyone!

When dealing with a snoring problem, you could be faced with one of two issues: primary snoring or the more sinister Obstructive Sleep Apnea, or OSA. To understand the differences between these two types of snoring, you must understand exactly how the snoring process works.

Additionally, it is important to understand the difference because while primary snoring can simply be an irritant to your partner, Obstructive Sleep Apnea can lead to other significant health problems, and in some cases can even be deadly!

Sleep Lab

Sleep disorders is an extremely common ailment in America. Millions of people suffer from sleeping disorders each year. Although many people contact their doctor regarding their sleeping issue, it can sometimes be difficult to diagnose a sleep disorder from a 10 minute consultation. Sleep labs are usually the best place to go to diagnose a sleep disorder and recommend a workable treatment.

Sleep labs sounds like a scary place, almost like an institution or hospital. In fact, most sleep labs usually resemble a hotel room except there is equipment in the room that is attached to the patient in order to record measurements.

Sleep labs are actually very comfortable and most people are able to fall asleep to be diagnosed during their stay. A sleep lab usually records measurements such as breathing, rapid eye movement, blood pressure, heart rate and other important data. The patient is also usually recorded with a video camera for future analyst.

Many people that have been to a sleep lab, have rated the experience positive and comfortable and are extremely satisfied that armed with data from their sleep they have received a diagnosis and treatment. Most sleep labs are covered by health insurance and usually one night is all that is required. Many sleep labs will prep you and educate you before you enter the sleep lab so that you know what to expect. If you think you are suffering from a sleep disorder, consult your physician and see if a sleep lab is right for your situation.
