There are three common types of sleeping disorders that affect millions of people; they are insomnia, narcolepsy and sleep apnea. Insomnia is the most common form of sleeping disorder affecting the amount of sleep and quality of sleep. Insomnia is defined as the inability to fall asleep or sleep throughout the entire night. Many people that suffer from insomnia have trouble falling asleep, even when they are extremely tired. For those insomnia sufferers that do fall asleep, there sleep may last only a few hours and they may awake during the midnight hours not being able to fall back asleep. Narcolepsy is another type of sleeping disorder, not as common as insomnia or sleep apnea, narcolepsy is uncontrollable urge to fall asleep at any time. People that suffer from narcolepsy do not have control when or where they fall asleep. It can be at work or even during an activity. Sleep apnea is the third type of sleeping disorder. Sufferers of sleep apnea can fall asleep but awake during the night because they stop breathing. The reason they stop breathing is usually due to a blockage in their throat or mouth. People with sleep apnea can stop breathing for a few seconds or more than a minute and they can wake up dozens of times a night preventing them from receiving quality sleep.
